Marie-Gabrielle Rotie was commissioned by Kew Gardens to create a site-specific promenade performance in the Temperate House, inspired by its plant life and Chiharu Shiota’s suspended installation. The work explores post-human ecological entanglements and “becoming plant.” I collaborated with Rotie on the project, working alongside Butoh-informed dancers and live artists to develop a series of vignettes embodying cycles of blooming, fragrance, and decay, reflecting the transience of existence. The project continues Rotie’s research into gardens, impermanence, and Japanese aesthetics.
