On the Surface
On the Surface presents a series of close-up studies of the human body, photographed as landscape. Detached from conventional portraiture, the body becomes terrain—its contours, textures, and folds evoking dunes, valleys, and shifting topographies shaped by light and shadow. Printed as black-and-white archival photographs and subtly toned with sepia, the images acquire a warmth that recalls wind-swept sand and geological formations. Through this transformation, familiar anatomy is rendered unfamiliar, inviting viewers to move between recognition and abstraction. On the Surface was awarded a Bronze Medal in the 141st Royal Photographic Society International Print Competition.
